NKT urges world leaders to take responsibility at COP26

NKT is following the discussions in Scotland closely as the political sphere plays a crucial role by setting the direction and ensuring the regulatory framework needed to support massive climate actions. NKT has signed the open letter from We Mean Business Coalition encouraging G20 Leaders to take action at COP26.

- The world is at a turning point and we all need to take responsibility to ensure the transition to renewable energy and low carbon future. We urge the political world to set bold targets and follow through with the needed actions to limit global warming to 1.5°C, says Alexander Kara, President and CEO of NKT, and continues:

-  It is not just the political sphere who needs to step up. Private companies also need to step up their climate game and drive the transformation. In NKT, we are committed to continue to support and promote the transition to renewable energy by connecting the world with our power cable technology and continue our journey to become a net-zero emissions company. Here, the decarbonization of our supply chain is essential and we encourage countries to develop science-based methods to reduce the carbon footprint of value chains, says Alexander Kara.

In December 2020, NKT signed up for the Science Based Target initiative to become a net-zero emissions company no later than 2050. While the company is developing the long-term climate strategy, NKT has committed to reduce its CO2-emissions by 5% on average annually in line with the Paris climate agreement to keep global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and implements the activities to drive the reductions according to our short-term plans.
